Yang Sing Oku Champagne bar, Hotel Yang Sing Oriental

Oku champagne bar

  Oku champagne bar
Oku champagne bar is set within the Hotel Yang Sing Oriental. It has Manchester’s largest selection of champagnes. My brief was to create a sense of luxury and style within the then derelict warehouse space on the lower ground floor. I was keen to retain some of the urban warehouse feel and used areas of exposed brick, columns and beams to do so.
The bar counter is made from white acrylic stone, which has been formed into a curved sleek shape and then carved with a sketch I did reminiscent of reeds blowing in the wind. When backlit, the design comes to life. This natural feel is evident throughout the bar and piano lounge, in the colour scheme of ivory, white and fresh green and in the detailing.

juxtaposition of the carved white bar

Note the juxtaposition of the carved white bar counter against the
carved, very sculptural reception counter, made from beams saved
from in the building. Their complete contrast with each other was
deliberate. The space is unique and dynamic.
